Usually known as Globe Amaranth, Gomphrena Globosa is an easy-to-grow annual bloomer that offers beautiful and showy flowers of purple, pink, orange, white and yellow colors. Flowers appear in summer and can be preserved for fresh as well as dried floral arrangements. ¬†Flowers of Gomphrena Globosa have papery surface and are useful in many ways: In Trinidad these flowers are boiled in water to prepare baby gripe. In Nepal, Gomphrena Globosa is an important part of Brother’s Day rituals where it is used to prepare garlands for brothers. Nepalese name of Gomphrena Globosa is ‘Supadi Phool’.

Native to Brazil, Panama and Guatemala, Gomphrena Globosa can be grown in most tropical and sub-tropical regions.

How to Grow Gomphrena Globosa

Gomphrena Globosa can be grown easily from seeds. The plants can grow 10 to 18 inches. Established plants are able to withstand brief spells of frost and drought. Gomphrena Globosa can grow in almost any soil without requiring much fertilizer. These ornamental flowering plants require moderate water and bright sunlight to flourish.
